This is a design for a
long-range, easily driven (and therefore economical) steel motor
trawler-type boat, 48 feet (14.7 m) overall length, and based on an
empirically evolved shrimp trawler design. This is a genuine,
traditional, long keel, displacement type hull, not a speed boat
pretending to be rugged.
The original vessel has been in continuous service for over six years and has made some long passages and done a lot of miles in all kinds of weather. It is a versatile boat, well suited to a variety of commercial or pleasure applications. This design is for liveaboard, cruising and distance voyaging.
The boat plans enable you to configure the Independence 48 for commercial applications, such as a sea angler or workboat.

This is a tough, practical steel workboat. Its wide beam and forward wheelhouse give plenty of deck and hold space. The bulwarks and rails give a large safe working area. This design has much more deck and hold room than the Independence 48, but shares its easy driving, economical characteristics.
The design of this steel boat is well-suited to commercial applications such as diving and sea angling. Click on the links below for more information on the design and performance of this boat.
